News and Announcements
Here are your diamond assignments for Wednesday. If your name is not on the list, you did not register until the practice was full. Sorry!
If your name is NOT on the list, DO NOT SHOW UP, even to hang around and watch. We are on a STRICT 10-player maximum and are in danger of having to shut this whole thing down if we don’t do it right. Please make sure there are NEVER more than 10 players at your diamond. Please don’t congregate in a large group at Charleswood 1 before heading to your diamond.
Maintain two-metre spacing at all times. Do not share bats. Please wear a batting glove on your throwing hand if you can.
We are continuing to refine the system and hope to add more practice opportunities next week if you got shut out of the 100 spots this week. (P) = Pitcher, (N) = New to the league.
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 28, 3:00pm
Grass Area Northeast of Charleswood 1
If there are any team coaches/managers in attendance, please help us by opening the lock boxes and providing balls and a strike mat. Then please make sure the boxes are locked and the diamond cleaned up after the practice.
Thanks, guys. Let’s do it right so we get to keep practicing. COVID numbers are skyrocketing which means people are watching us and we need to be careful what we do, even if we’ve gotten vaccinated.
The practice on Wednesday this week has been moved from 11:00am to* 3:00pm*.
Our agreement with the school board is such that we are not allowed to use the Charleswood 2 diamond during school hours. We thought that school was being held online, but the presence of children there during last weeks’ practice makes it clear that it is not.
Sorry for the change. Please email me at gary.paukert@GMail.com if this changes your attendance.
The practice is ‘fully subscribed’ and there is no more room. Diamond assignments will be going out later tonight.
Hello again everyone,
Hey, guess what, we’ve got a Facebook page!
As part of our recently developed 10-year Strategic Plan for the League, we’ve created a Facebook Group page that will allow us to better communicate with you and give us more exposure to the big, wide world for growth as a league.
If you use Facebook, you can find and join our new page by doing a search in ‘Groups’ for ‘Calgary Senior Men’s Slo-pitch.’
The site is just getting going, but we intend to post lots of news and pictures of your ugly mugs having a great time pretending to be professional athletes. You’ll see photos and videos and we may even do something crazy like broadcast our playoff games live some day using this medium.
If for some reason you don’t wish for your image to be used on this public page, (general shyness, outstanding felony warrants or a girlfriend like Carrie Fisher in ‘Blues Brothers’), please let me know and I will make sure to cut off your head in any photos.
I look forward to seeing you all link up via social media.

You will receive an email confirming your spot and assigning you to a diamond.
Tired of boring practices where all you do is take some swings and shag flies the rest of the time?
Well, let’s get creative and ‘Kick it Up a Notch.’ Here is a suggestion for your group of 10 during practices this week.
1. Have a quick run through the batting order giving everyone 5 swings to get warmed up.
2. Three people at a time at bat, the rest in the field.
3. Pitch to each batter as if in a game. Ball is live in the field, batter-runner runs the bases.
4. Runners go to second only and then go back up to bat.
5. Batters keep batting until the are put out by infielders or outfielders.
6. When a batter is put out, he immediately goes out to the field and a fielder comes in to bat.
7. Keep score to see who had the most safe hits.
8. After that scrimmage, have a quick infield practice. Each fielder must field three ground balls in a row before he is dismissed.
This routine (thanks, Dave Finn) keeps the defense engaged, brings base-running into things, and puts some game-style pressure on the batter.
