Dayball is ON for tomorrow!

Posted by Gary Paukert at Oct 3, 2021 6:38PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Just confirming, we DO have enough players for two teams. So everyone show up at 11:00am at Triwood.

Last chance before the snow flies!

Hi Everyone,

We had a great day last Monday. Since the weather looks good for this coming Monday, October 4, and a core group of guys are still interested, let’s plan for a game.

However, our numbers have dwindled a little each of the last few weeks, so we would like a confirmation that you can make it on Monday. We will need at least 18 players. Please let Brad Campbell know by 11:00 am on Sunday, October 3rd (before football starts) at bradj.campbell@shaw.ca if you are coming to day ball on October 4th for an 11:00 am start. You can text him at (403) 620-4421 as well.

This will be our final game as the following Monday is Thanksgiving (with a long-term forecast – at this point – of a high of 10°C and chance of flurries). You can hand in your jersey to Brad at the game on Monday. If you are not coming Monday (or if it’s cancelled), please arrange to get your jersey to your original manager.

Thanks all,

Brad Campbell

Good evening, guys:

There have been some amazing men who started up this great league and kept it going, and sadly we have lost another of them.

Eric Meinig passed away on Monday, September 27th at age 92. His step-daughter Lisa Columbus informed us today.

Eric played in our league for an AMAZING 23 years from 1994-2017, and even more important served on our Board of Directors from 1996-2002. There can be no doubt that he played a huge role in shaping the successful league we are today. Beyond that, he just must have enjoyed a tremendous lot of softball and made many, many friends.

Eric’s funeral service will be held on Monday, October 4, 2021 at Eden Brook Funeral Home (17 Ave SW and Lower Springbank Rd) at 10:00am with burial to follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. You can join the service virtually by the link below.

Here is the link to his obituary: https://www.arbormemorial.ca/edenbrook/obituaries/eric-richard-meinig/72230

I’m sure many, many of you knew Eric. His step-daughter was asking if perhaps we could provide ’Eric’s jersey’ for the funeral. Perhaps one of you who plans to attend can dig up a CSMS League jersey from the last team Eric played on and take it along for display.

Our league sends it’s condolences to Eric’s family and our assurances that Eric will be dearly missed, not to mention immensely appreciated for his contribution to our lives.

Best regards,

Velma O'Reilly (Yogi) has Passed Away

Posted by Gary Paukert at Sep 27, 2021 8:47AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Hi Folks,

You’ll probably remember that Yogi O’Reilly, one of the early enthusiasts of our League, passed away recently. We have received word that his wife, Velma, has also passed away.

As I understand it, Velma attended a LOT of Yogi’s games and was well-known to many of us.

A Celebration of Life will take place to honour Yogi and Velma ‘when we can again gather safely and in style.’ Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at the link below. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre for Ovarian Cancer, 1331 – 29 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 4N2 Telephone: 1 (866) 412-4222. www.albertacancer.ca/memorial.

Addendum: Twins vs. Yankees

Posted by Gary Paukert at Sep 23, 2021 8:53PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Apologies to the Yankees for not mentioning them in my previous email. It was they who gave the Twins all they could handle in the Bronze medal game.

Well done Blue Jays, D’Backs, Twins and Yankees for a spectacular AAA Division Playoff this year! And the same goes for the AA and A Divisions.
