Wednesday Practice - Time Change to 3:00pm

Posted by Gary Paukert at Apr 26, 2021 10:35AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Gentlemen:

The practice on Wednesday this week has been moved from 11:00am to* 3:00pm*.

Our agreement with the school board is such that we are not allowed to use the Charleswood 2 diamond during school hours. We thought that school was being held online, but the presence of children there during last weeks’ practice makes it clear that it is not.

Sorry for the change. Please email me at gary.paukert@GMail.com if this changes your attendance.

The practice is ‘fully subscribed’ and there is no more room. Diamond assignments will be going out later tonight.

Sincerely,

Gary Paukert

Hello again everyone,

Hey, guess what, we’ve got a Facebook page!

As part of our recently developed 10-year Strategic Plan for the League, we’ve created a Facebook Group page that will allow us to better communicate with you and give us more exposure to the big, wide world for growth as a league.

If you use Facebook, you can find and join our new page by doing a search in ‘Groups’ for ‘Calgary Senior Men’s Slo-pitch.’

The site is just getting going, but we intend to post lots of news and pictures of your ugly mugs having a great time pretending to be professional athletes. You’ll see photos and videos and we may even do something crazy like broadcast our playoff games live some day using this medium.

If for some reason you don’t wish for your image to be used on this public page, (general shyness, outstanding felony warrants or a girlfriend like Carrie Fisher in ‘Blues Brothers’), please let me know and I will make sure to cut off your head in any photos.

I look forward to seeing you all link up via social media.

Cheers,

Gary Paukert

20 spots remain for Thursday, April 29th 5:30pm

You will receive an email confirming your spot and assigning you to a diamond.

Practice Routine Suggestion

Posted by Gary Paukert at Apr 24, 2021 11:29AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Hey guys,

Tired of boring practices where all you do is take some swings and shag flies the rest of the time?

Well, let’s get creative and ‘Kick it Up a Notch.’ Here is a suggestion for your group of 10 during practices this week.

1. Have a quick run through the batting order giving everyone 5 swings to get warmed up.

2. Three people at a time at bat, the rest in the field.
3. Pitch to each batter as if in a game. Ball is live in the field, batter-runner runs the bases.
4. Runners go to second only and then go back up to bat.
5. Batters keep batting until the are put out by infielders or outfielders.
6. When a batter is put out, he immediately goes out to the field and a fielder comes in to bat.
7. Keep score to see who had the most safe hits.

8. After that scrimmage, have a quick infield practice. Each fielder must field three ground balls in a row before he is dismissed.

This routine (thanks, Dave Finn) keeps the defense engaged, brings base-running into things, and puts some game-style pressure on the batter.

Cheers,

Hello everyone,

Last week’s practices were well attended and we had good weather. There was great energy and I know it felt wonderful to get out and play and see your buds after a long winter. There were a few glitches which we’ll try to fix this week.

The practice schedule is:

1. Wednesday, April 28, 11:00am
2. Thursday, April 29, 5:30pm

We will use the grassy area just east of Charleswood 1&2 diamonds as a 5th diamond. *There will be a STRICT LIMIT of 10 people on each diamond in order to conform with AHS guidelines. Do NOT exceed 10 players. *

The first 50 players (per practice) who email me at gary.paukert@Gmail.com by Monday at 10:00pm will be able to practice. Please do NOT show up, even as a spectator, if you have not registered with me. Also. we need more pitchers, especially at Triwood, so please indicate you are a pitcher when you reply by email.

Tuesday night I will post an email like this one through the website telling you what diamond you are assigned to.

See you all next week, so far the weather looks good!
