Velma O'Reilly (Yogi) has Passed Away

Posted by Gary Paukert at Sep 27, 2021 8:47AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Hi Folks,

You’ll probably remember that Yogi O’Reilly, one of the early enthusiasts of our League, passed away recently. We have received word that his wife, Velma, has also passed away.

As I understand it, Velma attended a LOT of Yogi’s games and was well-known to many of us.

A Celebration of Life will take place to honour Yogi and Velma ‘when we can again gather safely and in style.’ Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at the link below. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre for Ovarian Cancer, 1331 – 29 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 4N2 Telephone: 1 (866) 412-4222. www.albertacancer.ca/memorial.

Addendum: Twins vs. Yankees

Posted by Gary Paukert at Sep 23, 2021 8:53PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Apologies to the Yankees for not mentioning them in my previous email. It was they who gave the Twins all they could handle in the Bronze medal game.

Well done Blue Jays, D’Backs, Twins and Yankees for a spectacular AAA Division Playoff this year! And the same goes for the AA and A Divisions.

Hello League,

Well, we had a couple of real nail-biters in AAA tonight; what better way to end the 2021 season!

Congratulations to the Blue Jays, your 2021 AAA Division Playoff Winners and Gold Medalists. The Blue Jays defeated the D’Backs 15-10 in a game much closer than the score indicates. The two teams were tied after six innings. The D’Backs received the Silver Medals.

Over on Charleswood 2, the Twins scored in the bottom of the 7th to win 17-16 in another squeaker. The Twins therefore receive the Bronze Medals for 2021.

As much fun as the games were tonight, it’s a bit sad that the season is over and the diamonds will soon be covered in snow. I wish everyone an excellent off-season and hope that you can keep active and in shape by playing indoor ball here in Calgary or outdoor ball somewhere warmer.

Whatever the case, there will be lots of CSMS League activity going on over the winter, starting with the Fall GM on October 27th which I urge EVERYONE to attend, (likely via Zoom). Registration for the 2022 Season will begin January 1st. Let’s tell our friends and invite them to join us next year, guys. We have an AWESOME product here. Let’s share it with those who haven’t heard about us yet.

We’ll get some practices going in April and hopefully start the season around May 1st with NO COVID interference for the first time in two years!

Stay safe and come back next year. We’re all going to miss playing ball together.

Cheers,

Monday Dayball - 11:00am Starts

Posted by Gary Paukert at Sep 23, 2021 8:34PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Hello guys,

Dayball continues this coming Monday until the snow flies. However, it’s cool in the mornings so we’re pushing the time back an hour.

For the rest of the year, please show up at the Triwood diamonds at 11:00am Mondays and teams will be organized.

Cheers,

It’s a busy night in the CSMS League!

Tonight the Cardinals are AA Division Playoff Gold Medalists, having beaten the Nationals 19-1. Congratulations boys! The Nationals get the Silver hardware.

The Rangers came in third for the Bronze Medal.

In the other playoff bracket, the Rockies beat the Royals 15-3.

Great job, gentlemen, for prevailing through another squirrely COVID summer. Rest on your laurels and we’ll see you all in May 2022!

Cheers,
