League:

Today was a good day! A VERY good day.

The AHS announcement today means we’ll soon be playing ball again. Your Board had a plan ready for this day, and we are ready to throw the switch and move forward. Here is that plan:

June 14 Registration closes
June 21/22 Mandatory evaluation sessions for new players 2020 and 2021
June 23 AAA draft
June 24 Dayball draft
June 25 AA draft
June 27 A draft
June 28-July 2 Practice week
July 1 Umpire clinic
July 5 Regular season begins

The season will run into September in order to maximize the number of games and we will finish off with a tournament at Charleswood/Triwood, rather than playoffs.

The Province of Alberta expects to be without any significant COVID restrictions by July 1st, (Stage 3). We expect to be able to do all the preparatory work under Stage 2 after mid-June.

If you have been hanging back, wanting to wait and see what the status of the pandemic in Alberta, or the provincial restrictions will be, we encourage you to now register through the website or contact John Schmidt.

Further information, for instance about times and locations, will be forthcoming as we get closer.

But it was a VERY good day.

Hello all,

Again this summer, the Triwood Community Centre is going to have an on-site Farmer’s Market every Tuesday afternoon from 3:00pm to 6:00pm through the end of September.

The market is growing rapidly and this year will have 35 different awesome vendors, selling meat, eggs, fruit, vegetables, honey, tea, coffee, miscellaneous essentials and lots of creative stuff made by talented people.

Best of all, JT’s restaurant will be open for concession-style ice cream June 1-14 from 4:00pm to 9:00pm, and ice cream is FREE on opening market day June 1st.

Drop by an check it out on Tuesdays, especially if your right next door playing ball!

The Triwood Community Centre is a great supporting partner to the Calgary Senior Men’s Slo-pitch League. Let’s all make a big effort to support them right back.

Hello League,

The lock box at the Triwood diamond has been cleaned out and a number of personal items have been recovered. They include:

  • A set of keys with proxy fobs and a tag labelled ‘GYMVMT.’
  • A blue windbreaker stitched with ‘Senior Softball’ and ‘Art.’
  • A black ‘Ultimate Fighting Championship’ sweatshirt.
  • A pair of white batting gloves (likely golf gloves).
  • Two short, wooden fungo bats.
  • A metal sculpture of a boy swinging a bat.

If any of these belong to you, contact Gary Paukert at gary.paukert@gmail.com. The items will be thrown out if not claimed by June 1st.

Best,

Gary

The Plan

Posted by Gary Paukert at May 8, 2021 9:51AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

A good Saturday morning to you all,

Are you sitting around, staring out the window watching it snow? Are you scratching your….…head and wondering: Just what IS the plan for slo-pitch this summer? Well, let me tell you what I know.

The Province has shut us down for three weeks, and the City of Calgary has cancelled diamond permits through May 31st. But with increased vaccine delivery we can hope for reduced COVID hospitalizations and fewer restrictions by June 1st. At least we plan to be ready for that. Therefore:

  • Registration will close at the end of the day May 23rd. If you aren’t registered by then, you won’t play in 2021.
  • Evaluation sessions for our 26 League ‘Newbies,’ (Welcome!!) are tentatively scheduled for June 1st.

Immediately after the evaluation sessions, AAA, AA, A and Dayball drafts will take place and teams will be formed. If restrictions at that time allow only 10 people to congregate, then diamonds will be available for scheduling and those teams will just practice by themselves as we did in April. If larger group gatherings are allowed, then we will start the season and finally have teams playing each other again.

If things don’t open up by June 1st, then we’ll just be ready to go when they do.

Please note: For liability reasons, you CANNOT practice or play in any League activities unless you have signed up for the CSMS season AND purchased an Alberta 55+ membership (which some registrants have yet to do). If you haven’t yet, please go to www.Alberta55Plus.ca today and take care of this. I’m warning you, if you don’t, you won’t get any of the Nanaimo bars and orange slices Jimmy’s mom is bringing for after the game.

As always, watch the news and watch your email!

Stand-up triples and frozen-rope line-drives are just a few weeks away. Fingers crossed.

Best regards,
