Hello League!
How long has it been since you’ve ventured up north? The Alberta55 plus Provincial Summer Games are in Peace River this summer, June 16-19 and are certain to be an excellent time for thousands of 55+
athletes. It will be a great ‘return to normal’ with all that has happened since the last Summer Games in Medicine Hat in 2019.As in past years, we would like to see as many teams as possible made up of CSMS League players heading up Highway #2 to compete and represent both our part of Alberta and the CSMS League.
Teams for the Summer Games are formed via Zone and age bracket. That’s Zone 3 for those living inside Calgary city limits, and Zone 2 for those living outside the city limits. Already Zone 2 has me (60+), Bruce Hall (65+), Terry McKechnie (70+) and Nick Radmanovich (75+) forming teams. If you live in Zone 2 and want to take part, please contact these
people. Thus far, though, we’ve heard nothing about teams going from Zone 3 -Calgary!
So, this is a shout-out to encourage those in Zone 3 get off yer duffs and form up teams in those age brackets! As you decide to form a team, Zone 3, you can coordinate with Dan Guglielmin, Activity Director at
Zone3Activities@Alberta55plus.ca. Perhaps you’ve been thinking about trying your hand at running a
team. Well, this is a great opportunity to give it a one-off try and see how you like it. Why not give it a whirl? Teams just don’t happen unless someone steps up to the plate. The League can help you withhow to contact potential players.
I hope we’ll have a BIG contingent of CSMS League players coming back with medals around their necks from Peace River. Please consider stepping forward to take the initiative!
Best regards,
Gary Paukert

Our scheduled Rules Clinic is now confirmed for April 2nd, 2022 at Triwood Community Center.
This event will take place from 10am-4pm in Collingswood Hall, located upstairs at Triwood Community Center.
As mention on yesterday’s update, 1 Coach or 1 Manager must attend from each team and all current league umpires and anyone else wishing to learn more about the rules and perhaps become an umpire themselves must attend.

Thanks All,

Rules Clinic Update

Hi Everyone,

I’m making a correction to one of the items posted earlier today.

On Saturday, April 2nd there will be a Rules Clinic from 10am-4pm (location still to be confirmed but we are hoping Triwood Community Association)
I had mistakenly called this event an Umpire Clinic but that was incorrect.
I had also mentioned that 1 team rep must attend, that should have read 1 Coach or 1 Manager must attend from each team and all current league umpires and anyone else wishing to learn more about the rules and perhaps become an umpire themselves must attend.

And there will be corrections on the Dates for the Draft but everyone can expect that the Draft will happen the week of April 25th to the 29th. There will be appropriate spacing between each group so that everyone has time to better prepare.

Regards,

PM

CSMS 55+ and Covid 19

Hi Everyone,

You may or may not know, but our CSMS 55+ Board met this past Wednesday Feb 16th and one of the main subjects that was discussed was our stance on COVID and what if any restrictions we will implement or follow.

As everyone is fully aware, this is an extremely Hot Topic.

While we expect that the vast majority of our members are fully vaccinated we have to expect that there will be some that will not be vaccinated. And that is a fairly common trend in all settings and all groups like ours.

We all know that worldwide, this is a very Fluid situation and seems to change day by day.
And, as you all know, closer to home, the requirement for vaccinations is being rescinded, and masks will soon not be required. This is also happening in several other provinces in Canada, as well as other countries.

After much discussion and deliberation at Wednesday nights meeting, the Board decided, as many organizations have, that we will follow whatever the Provincial and Municipal regulations are at the time.
This means that there will be no requirement for either vaccination or masking in order to participate this summer, at least if things remain as they are now.
We still recommend that everyone to try and social distance in the dugouts as much as possible and to not share equipment.

PM
